99% Idiots; Same As It Ever Was & Ever Will Be

Below is a posting I made to a friend who has gone from being a conservative Republican to disillusioned with   both parties.  I basically agreed with him but expanded on it.  I probably should have gave him a link to my Douche & Turd: Lesser of Two Evils posting.

No matter the government structure and philosophy (democratic, communist, socialist, autocratic, meritocratic…etc..) the assertive, ruthless, cunning, intelligent, opportunistic and charismatic…maybe even amoral or at least borderline amoral… will be the ones controlling resources and influencing others. These people are the politicians, CEO’s, Wall Street Bankers, those with money etc… the 1%. Even Plato offered up his society with “philosopher kings”. People in power tend to be the ones that seek power (money, political influence etc…). It doesn’t matter the type of government. And some of them may actually want to help the people, ALL OF THEM want to increase their power (for their own good or they may even thing for the good of the people)…hell our political system is designed for politicians to continuously seek to increase their power to stay elected.

Back to the Future Economy: Your Parents & Grandparents Were Wealthier Than You

This was a posting in response to an article on SFGate about former President Bill Clinton states that the key to fixing the nation's economy is to address the struggling housing market and foreclosures.

The key to fixing the economy is for the US to once again make stuff to sell to other countries...there by employing Americans so they can afford houses again (of course after housing prices have reset).

The whole idea of the housing industry creating jobs for the economy is just stupid. construction jobs and housing are a symptom of a growing economy not a cause.

The Golden State, Government Overspending & The Lesser Of Evils/Politicians

This was a message to someone in the midwest about liberal politics and California.  The funny thing is that she thought my initial posting in response to her friend's liberal comments made me a like minded conservative.  But I guess I was making the fiscal conservative argument.  

I think things like starting families also tends to make people think more conservatively because then you have more than yourself to worry about...I see it all the time with idealistic young folks out here that then settle down; their focus on the city/state/country/world's problems mostly shifts to their own households...it's the natural way of things.

I love California, best state in the Union IMO. Geographically we have mountains, forests, coastline, farmland (ag is the biggest industry in the state) and deserts. The population is a mix of so many types of people. It creates craziness for sure which can be good and bad. The state is nearly bankrupt but at the same time the state's economy has at times been the 5th or 6th largest in the world...but also it's one of the worst states to start and run a business because of taxes (way too many inefficient state run programs)...there's so much chaos and creativity here. and all that is even more so in the crazy cosmopolitan city of SF. 

Separation of the Spiritual & Material Worlds or God Helps Those Who Help Themselves

Here is a posting I made in response to a Deepak Chopra article posted on SFGate.

Separation of the spiritual world and the material world? kind of practical. even if you're a fundamentalist (but not crazy) Christian/Muslim/Jew/Wiccan...etc...if you're caught in an on coming hurricane are you just going to get on your knees and pray for it to go away with the power of faith? no you're going to seek fortified shelter and then pray for everything to be okay.  Often attributed to Benjamin Franklin (and not in the Bible) "God helps those that help themselves".  


The concept of god(s) is/are always on the next horizon. In prehistoric days god(s) lived in/on some impassable mountain range. Then one day some person/people cross the mountain range and then god(s) are in the sky, under the water etc... there's no chariot going across the sky with the sun. Science taught us the earth is round and that the the earth revolves around the sun. The human concept of god is always going to be one step beyond human understanding. But that's fine because there's always going to be someone to challenge that boundary of understanding. On the other side of it, the internal human experience....it's not that hard really. Almost all religions support it. Human's are social creatures. It's the people in our lives that matter most. Be a good person, support/help your family, your friends, your community etc... Be a good person and your world will likely be better and will help you though inevitable adversity through life. So in a sense the spiritual world exists with us in our day to day lives through the people we interact with.

First Post

Well I don't know where to begin.  It's 2012 and the end of the world may once again come around at the end of the year.  Who was the Emperor Norton?  He was an eccentric or mentally unbalanced man from the late 1800's that lived in San Francisco and proclaimed himself the "Emperor of the United States" and "Protector of Mexico".  He was mostly humored around town and considered a local celebrity.  He issued a decree to dissolve the US Congress (hey, who hasn't wanted to to do that from time to time) and for a bridge and a tunnel to connect San Francisco with the other side of the bay (which of course happened years later).

So why do I call myself Emperor Norton II?  Mostly because I can identify with being delusional and I like to think about and comment about the world and universe around me.  And while I think I'm right...I'm sure I sound quite mad.  Do I have any great religious or philosophical influences?


Yes, Leto Atreides II the God Emperor of Dune.  The fictional prophet/tyrant in the sci-fi Dune series by Frank Herbert.  Leto's purpose was to teach mankind.  And it is in the same fashion that the universe teaches mankind and it is up to mankind to learn and adapt to the universe.

So many of my blog entries will be postings I've made on various forums on the internet that I wish to preserve.  Spelling isn't really my thing, I'm usually in too much of a hurry or just don't care.  Also, since many of my blog entries are postings that I made to other websites, even my grammar and the coherency of my thoughts are often questionable.  And as of these first few posts, I'm well aware that I'm talking to myself.  But on the bright side, I most of the time understand what I'm blogging about (most of the time anyway...).
